Home care services allow your mom or dad to feel independent, while still getting that extra help they need.

Elderly individuals often do much better when allowed to remain in their homes. Having a caregiver in the home allows them to do this.

The need for home care services is great. Try out one of these ten great activities for seniors for some inspiration!

  1. Walks – Simply taking a walk serves many purposes. It gives you two time to talk, keep active, and gives both of you some fresh air.
  2. Cards – A classic, card games help to keep aging minds sharp. They’re a lot of fun, too!
  3. Dough Therapy – Play dough isn’t just for kids. Fun for all ages, this therapy helps keep senior’s hand/eye coordination sharp and allows them to use their imaginations.
  4. Music – Put on some music, or make some of your own.

  5. Sharing Stories – Grab a cup of coffee or tea, and settle down to swap stories. Your elders will enjoy sharing with you, and you can learn a lot from their experiences.
  6. Bingo – See if one of your local community centers offers bingo. It’s a fun, safe way for your mom to get out of the house, be around people their age, and have a lot of fun. You can even join in yourself.
  7. Movie Nights – Whether in the house or at your local theater, movie nights are a great way for elders to feel like a real part of the family. Bring the kids, pop in some classics, and enjoy yourselves for a while.
  8. Record History – Seniors have an abundance of stories, accumulated through decades. Grab a video or tape recorder and record an oral history of their lives. They’ll feel important, and you’ll enjoy learning about the way things used to be.
  9. Cookbooks – Creating a cookbook together is another fun way that seniors can share their wisdom. I mean, who doesn’t want to know how grandma makes that special pie of hers?
  10. Electronic Games – Take a little time to teach your mom how to use the computer if they don’t already know. Computers have plenty of fun games, and great videos, that will keep your mom or dad entertained during their downtime!
